Breakdown of the Duke Class of 2028 Early Decision Admits

Duke is showing some love for the Carolinas! Out of the 806 students accepted early to Duke, 145 are from North and South Carolina (Duke cares about its local students – 121 from North Carolina and 24 from South Carolina!), a 25% increase from last year, according to Duke.

97 students were accepted to Duke through the QuestBridge National College Match program. This program helps outstanding students from low-income families apply to top universities. This number is almost twice as much as last year.

“This increase shows our commitment to giving more students access to a Duke education. It also helps diversify our student body economically while keeping high academic standards,” said Provost Alec Gallimore in a Duke press release about the Class of 2028.

International students make up 8% of the Early Decision admits. 54% are female. 13% will be the first in their families to go to college. Out of the new students accepted through Early Decision, 625 want to join the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, and 181 prefer the Pratt School of Engineering.

35% of students who got accepted didn’t send test scores, which we at Ivy Coach are glad Duke made public. Not many top schools share this kind of data when they let students decide whether to submit test scores or not.
