Did Tufts University say they’ll decide later if you can join the Class of 2028? If yes, don’t worry too much! It’s better than being told “no” right away. As someone they’re still considering, you still have a chance of getting in. So, what are the chances of getting accepted in the normal way, and how can you make them better? Let’s find out!

Tufts Early Decision Admissions Statistics

Tufts has shared some data about how many students they’ve accepted early over the past 13 years. But they haven’t shared data for some of those years, including the most recent one. We can find some numbers online, but we’re not sure how accurate they are, as none of them come directly from Tufts, based on our estimates.

5 Steps to Take After Being Deferred by Tufts

1. Take a stroll outside. Relax your mind. Before you deal with your postponement from Tufts, it’s important to take some time for yourself.

2. Schedule a free meeting with Ivy Coach to learn more about what we can do for you after your deferral.

3. Review your Tufts application with Ivy Coach to figure out what mistakes you made. While you can’t fix these errors for Tufts, you still have a chance to correct them for other schools you applied to in the Regular Decision round.

4. Send a convincing Letter of Continued Interest to Tufts with Ivy Coach’s assistance shortly after you’re deferred. Ivy Coach’s letters are unique, and that’s why they work so well. They don’t contain any bragging or updates, unlike what some of your peers might write.

5. In the New Year, ask your school counsellor to advocate for you. Also, give your previously sent Letter of Continued Interest to your counsellor so they can represent you as you described yourself in your letter.

What Not To Do After Being Deferred by Tufts

1. Please avoid reaching out to the Tufts admissions office if you weren’t accepted. They prefer not to talk to students about this. Please understand.

2. Sending emails to the Tufts admissions office isn’t helpful. Some students who were deferred from Tufts ask us for help with a Letter of Continued Interest, only to realise they already emailed Tufts about their deferral. Sending more messages will lessen the impact of your letter.

3. Don’t camp outside the Tufts admissions office. It might seem funny, but students come up with all sorts of wild ideas.

4. Sending a YouTube video to the Tufts admissions committee isn’t necessary. While you might think it’s unique and lets them see you, it’s not a new idea, and they don’t need to see your face. Express yourself in your letter instead.

5. Don’t overwhelm Tufts with messages after sending your letter. It’s okay for your school counsellor to reach out to Tufts after you’ve sent your letter. We appreciate their calls! But it’s best to keep your communication with Tufts to just that letter.

Tufts Deferral FAQ

Do Tufts accept, defer, and deny Early Decision I and II applicants?

Tufts University accepts, postpones, or rejects students who apply early. All those who are postponed, whether they applied in the first or second early round, will receive their decision by April 1, 2024.

Is a Tufts deferral meaningful?

Unlike many other schools, Tufts doesn’t usually postpone the majority of its early applicants. So, if you get postponed by Tufts, it’s a big deal.

Is Tufts more challenging to get into than its current US News & World Report ranking may imply?

Surprisingly, according to Ivy Coach, getting into Tufts can be just as tough as getting into Northwestern University or Johns Hopkins University. Don’t let its lower ranking in US News & World Reports fool you. While US News plays a big role in the highly competitive college admissions process, it’s ultimately just a magazine.
